Coolant loss / degas system watch
Symptoms: gradually falling coolant level, occasional white exhaust smoke or overheating on affected examples
What to do: The 1.0 EcoBoost family has a history of coolant loss and, on the earlier engines, head/coolant-intrusion problems. Keep an eye on the coolant level and investigate any unexplained drop, white smoke or overheating promptly. The revised mHEV engine improved this, so treat it as a watch item rather than an expected failure.

Wet oil-pump drive belt wear
Symptoms: usually no early warning; a neglected belt can break down, shedding rubber that clogs the oil pickup and starves the engine of oil
What to do: The revised 1.0 EcoBoost uses a timing chain for the camshafts but still drives the oil pump with a belt that runs in the engine oil. Replace this belt on schedule, stick strictly to the correct oil specification and keep oil changes on time — this is the main way to avoid oil-starvation damage.
