B00xx codes: airbags and seat-belt pretensioners

12 codes in this range, all generic — the same meaning on every make. The supplemental restraint system: front, side and knee airbags, seat-belt pretensioners and crash sensors. The airbag warning lamp comes on with these codes.

What usually causes codes in this area

  • A connector under a seat that was knocked loose or has corroded
  • A worn clock spring in the steering column (driver airbag circuits)
  • A failed crash sensor
  • A module fault, or crash data stored after a collision

Can you keep driving?

The car drives normally, but the airbags or pretensioners may not deploy in a crash — get it fixed promptly. Don’t unplug or probe airbag parts yourself: they can go off.
