Rear coil-spring sag under load (dual cab)
Symptoms: Rear of the ute sits noticeably low when a canopy, tow-ball weight, long-range tank or payload is added; reduced ride height and bump-stop contact when loaded.
What to do: The dual-cab NP300 used a coil-sprung rear that is prone to sagging under load. Nissan revised the springs during the model's life; owners who carry or tow regularly commonly fit heavier-rate or GVM-upgrade springs. This is a load/spring-rate limitation, not a failure.

DPF regeneration on short trips
Symptoms: DPF warning light, forced or incomplete regens, reduced economy, possible oil-level rise from fuel dilution.
What to do: The 2.3 diesel needs regular sustained highway running to complete passive DPF regens; short-trip-only use leads to clogging. Take a periodic longer drive and monitor the oil level.

2.5 (YD25) timing-chain stretch and failure
Symptoms: Rattle on cold start-up or when hot, chain/tensioner noise, in severe cases skipped timing and catastrophic engine damage; the single-row fuel-pump drive chain tends to fail first.
What to do: The YD25 is well known for timing-chain and tensioner wear, especially earlier (Spanish-built) D40s. Treat any start-up or hot rattle seriously and inspect promptly - a stretched chain that jumps can destroy the engine. Keep oil fresh and to level, as poor oil maintenance accelerates the wear.

2.5 diesel injector, EGR and intake carbon build-up
Symptoms: Rough running, hesitation, black smoke, reduced economy; carbon clogging of the EGR and intake manifold.
What to do: Like most EGR-equipped common-rail diesels, the YD25 accumulates carbon in the EGR and intake and can suffer injector wear at higher mileage. Maintain fuel filtration, address rough-running early, and consider periodic intake/EGR cleaning.
