Dated 4-speed automatic feels sluggish and thirsty
Symptoms: Slow, lazy kickdown and noticeably higher fuel use with the old 4-speed torque-converter auto, especially on the highway; the engine sits at high revs.
What to do: This is a characteristic of the ageing 4-speed automatic paired with a modestly powered naturally-aspirated 1.5, not a fault. Keep the transmission fluid serviced and expect leisurely performance; the manual is livelier if you have the choice. Have it checked only if you get harsh shifts, slipping or warning lights.

Budget interior trim, rattles and minor electrical niggles
Symptoms: Hard, low-cost cabin plastics, dashboard and door-trim squeaks/rattles over time, and occasional minor electrical or warning-light niggles.
