JAC T6: common problems, service schedule and fuel economy

Known problems

  • Worth watching

Diesel DPF / EGR clogging and fuel-quality sensitivity

Symptoms: power loss, warning lights and more frequent regeneration cycles on the turbodiesel in short, low-speed city use; over time the EGR and DPF can soot up, and the Delphi Common Rail system tolerates poor diesel badly

What to do: Give the diesel regular longer runs at highway speed so the DPF can finish regenerating, use good-quality diesel and the correct low-ash oil, keep the fuel filter fresh and drain the water separator. If a regeneration warning appears, drive as instructed rather than ignoring it; have the DPF/EGR checked if power stays down.

  • Worth watching

Engine oil leaks and oil-separator / cam-sensor issues

Symptoms: oil weeping at the block-to-gearbox joint, sump/pan and crank/cam seals; the PCV oil separator can leak. In one reported case a failing camshaft-position (phase) sensor let oil be forced out of the engine

What to do: Have the bellhousing area, sump and valve-cover/PCV checked for seepage at each service and re-seal weeping joints early. If oil consumption or crankcase pressure seems high, inspect the oil separator/PCV; scan for cam/crank-sensor faults if a phase/timing code appears.

  • Good to know

Build-quality, NVH and thin service/parts support

Symptoms: owners describe assembly quality as merely adequate, an uncomfortable driver's seat, short gearing and elevated noise; official-dealer expertise is limited and parts can take around three weeks to arrive

What to do: Inspect trim, seals and fasteners on a used example, budget for occasional parts-wait times, and buy from a dealer able to support the truck. Treat the ergonomics and noise as characteristics of a budget work-oriented pickup.

Service schedule

Item Interval Notes
Engine oil & filter change every 6,000 mi (10,000 km) or 12 months roughly 10,000 km; halve it for towing, heavy loads, dust or short trips. The diesel needs the correct low-ash (DPF-compatible) oil
Cabin filter every 9,000 mi (15,000 km)
Fuel filter (diesel Common Rail) important every 9,000 mi (15,000 km) diesel only — the Delphi Common Rail system is sensitive to fuel quality; drain the water separator regularly. A DPF is fitted, so give the diesel periodic longer highway runs so it can regenerate
Air filter every 19,000 mi (30,000 km) shorten in dusty/off-road use
Timing drive & spark plugs important every 25,000 mi (40,000 km) the 2.0T petrol (HFC4GA3-4D) is chain-driven — inspect for noise rather than replacing on a fixed schedule, and change its spark plugs around 40k km. For the diesel, follow the owner's manual for its timing-drive service
Gearbox, transfer case & axle oils important every 37,000 mi (60,000 km) a body-on-frame 4x4 pickup: change the manual-gearbox, transfer-case and front/rear axle oils periodically, sooner under load/off-road use. Most cars are 6-speed manual; some later Sollers ST6 versions add an automatic, whose fluid should also be serviced
Brake fluid important every 36 months

Manufacturer-declared fuel economy

No manufacturer-declared figures for this model are in the Knowledge Base yet. A figure without the cycle it was measured under is not comparable to anything, so we publish none rather than a number you cannot interpret.

Frequently asked

What are the most common JAC T6 problems?

The faults reported most often are: Diesel DPF / EGR clogging and fuel-quality sensitivity; Engine oil leaks and oil-separator / cam-sensor issues; Build-quality, NVH and thin service/parts support. Symptoms, the mileage each appears at and what to do about it are all above.

How often does the JAC T6 need servicing?

Engine oil & filter change — every 6,000 mi (10,000 km) or 12 months. The full published schedule is above; your car's own service book always takes precedence.

Where does this data come from?

Brimly's Vehicle Knowledge Base — the same verified facts the app's AI assistant answers from. Every fault is written up from public sources and then checked by a human before it is published; nothing here is generated on the fly.
