12V auxiliary battery drain / faults
Symptoms: Car won't wake or 'start', dead infotainment with no obvious cause, or assorted electrical warnings after the car has sat for a while, most common on early cars
What to do: Like most MEB EVs, the ID.3 depends on a conventional 12V battery to power its computers; an undersized or poorly managed one causes a cascade of odd faults. VW upgraded 12V hardware and shipped control-logic fixes — apply the updates, and replace a weak 12V battery.

Symptoms: Slow start-up, freezing or rebooting central screen, laggy or dropped CarPlay/Android Auto, glitchy driver-assistance behaviour and range-estimate quirks, mostly on 2020-2021 builds
What to do: Early ID.3 software was widely criticised but has been substantially improved through over-the-air and dealer updates. Ensure the car is on the latest ID.Software version — most launch-era complaints are resolved once fully updated.

Heat pump cold-weather efficiency
Symptoms: Larger-than-expected winter range loss and slower cabin heating in very cold conditions on cars fitted with the optional heat pump
What to do: The optional heat pump helps winter range but was found less efficient than advertised at very low temperatures (VW issued partial refunds in some markets). It still beats resistive heating; use pre-conditioning while plugged in to preserve range.
