    2.0 turbo (8AR-FTS) cold-start noise and water pump

    Symptoms: noisy or rattly running when cold that clears as the engine warms; some cars need a water-pump replacement, and the direct-injection turbo is costly to service

    What to do: On the turbo, keep to clean oil on a shorter interval — the oiling system is fussy — and have the electric water pump checked at service.
