    N20 timing chain stretch (early 2011-2015 petrol)

    Symptoms: Rattle or ticking on cold start-up, check-engine light, timing-correlation fault codes; in severe cases sudden engine failure

    What to do: Early N20 chains, guides and tensioner can wear and, on this interference engine, a jumped or broken chain destroys it. If you hear a start-up rattle, have the chain assessed immediately; on higher-mileage early cars a preventative chain/guide/tensioner replacement is worth budgeting for.

    N47 diesel timing chain (rear-mounted)
